With at least 5 years of experience, you might become a Project Manager or a Construction Manager.
As a Project Manager your duties would include:
- Feasibility studies - Conducting technical and economical feasibility studies on the entire life-cycle of the project.
- Financial arrangements - Proposing and arranging for the financing of the project.
- Planning - Preparing and maintaining the master planning schedule.
- Providing advice - Advising the client on the engagement of consultants and contractors.
- Co-ordination - Co-ordinating the work of consultant and contractors to ensure that the contract schedule and specifications are met without any hitches.
- Monitoring and controlling - Monitoring the work progress and keeping project cost within budget constraints.
- Reports - Reporting to top management on the progress of the project and formulating marketing strategies for the project.
As a Construction Manager your duties would include:
- Planning and organising site construction activities.
- Supervising - Supervising site engineers, site foremen and subcontractors.
- Monitoring and controlling - Monitoring the progress of the work closely to ensure compliance with contract schedule.
- Inspection - Inspecting work to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Documentation - Recording all site activities. Information kept by you will be used by the Estimator or Quantity Surveyor to prepare claims.
